These guidelines for the preparation of NAT Test will help to get to know what is NAT, what its paper pattern, how to prepare for the NAT Test and how to mark a good score in the NAT Test.

NTS (National Testing Service) is an organization which conducts various tests and NAT Test is one of them. NAT stands for National Aptitude Test. Basically this aptitude test is conducted for the admissions in NAT Associated Universities in various disciplines. A candidate can apply in all these colleges or universities for admissions on the basis of a single NAT Test result.

The result of NAT Test will be valid for only one year

NTS conducts about 10 to 11 NAT Tests in a year; a student can register for any of them. Moreover a student can take as many tests as he or she wants to improve his or her result.

NAT Test is basically conducted in two categories

  • Category 1 (Candidate having 12 years of Education appear in category one tests).
  • Category 2 (Candidate having 14 years of Education appear in category two tests).

Category One Tests

Six types of tests lie in category one test. Category one tests have total of 90 questions to attempt.

  1. NAT-IE (Candidate having 12 years/equal Education in Pre-Engineering Group).
  2. NAT-IM (Candidate having 12 years/equal Education in Pre-Medical Group).
  3. NAT-IA (Candidate having 12 years/equal Education in Arts Group).
  4. NAT-ICS (Candidate having 12 years/equal Education in Computer Science).
  5. NAT-IGS (Candidate having 12 years/equal Education in General Science).
  6. NAT-ICOM (Candidate having 12 years/equal Education in Commerce).

Category Two tests

Five type of tests lie in category two tests. Category two tests have total of 100 questions to attempt.

  1. NAT-IIA (Having 14 years/equal Education in Art & Social Sciences Group)
  2. NAT-IIB (Having 14 years/equal Education in Biological Sciences Group)
  3. NAT-IIM (Having 14 years/equal Education in Management Sciences Group)
  4. NAT-IIP (Having 14 years/equal Education in Physical Sciences Group)
  5. NAT-IIO (Having 14 years/equal Education in Oriental & Islamic Studies Group)

NAT Test Composition

NAT Test is a MCQs (Multiple choice questions) based paper. NAT Tests of both categories are composed of four main sections as follows:

  1. English
  2. Analytical
  3. Quantitative
  4. Subject

English:

English portion contains five types of language questions

  1. Sentence Completion (Complete the sentence with correct and appropriate option)
  2. Analogy (Correct correspondence or relationship between pair of words)
  3. Antonym (Opposite meaning words)
  4. Comprehension (Attempt question by reading given paragraph)
  5. Synonym (Similar meaning words)

Analytical:

Analytical portion consist of two types of questions. Analytical questions are designed to test candidate’s analytical skills. Analytical Skills means the ability to analyze a given situation, scenario or statement. Candidate is given a scenario, statement or a situation in a form of a paragraph, tables or set of facts and he is asked on various aspects of it. Candidate may be asked solution to a problem or conclusion of a process or a tactic on given situation. Such questions demand a great deal of thinking and logical approach. In some of these questions candidate may also need the basic knowledge mathematics

  1. Scenario based
  2. Statement based

Quantitative:

Quantitative portion consist of three types of questions. Quantitative reasoning consists of questions which normally involve the basics of arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, ratio and proportion, percentage), simple algebra and simple geometry.

These questions are though very simple but they involve some tricks which make them seem difficult. Usually there is some missing data in question which you need to solve that question. You have to first extract that hidden/missing data from the given data of question. Similarly in question of geometry you have to use brain to make an extra sketch for the given diagram or question which may help you solve the question easily. Students find these questions difficult because they directly apply the arithmetic rules on given data and don’t try to analyze the given data if some extra helpful data may also be extracted.

You should learn the simple concepts of arithmetic, algebra and geometry as well as the art of exploring the tricks of such questions. To solve such question you should have command on the simple concepts and formulas of mathematics, i.e. addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, ratio and proportion, percentage, formulae for areas of circle, triangle, quadrilateral etc., simple formulae and rules for algebra.

  1. Arithmetic
  2. Algebra
  3. Geometry

Subject:

The above given three portions are common in all types of NAT Tests while the fourth Subject portion consist questions according to the NAT Test type. For example NAT-IE type test is for Pre-Engineering group students hence the subject portion will contain question from Physics Chemistry and Mathematics. The whole detail about the other type’s subject portion is given below.

For the preparation of this portion of test you should revise your course work. The appropriate course work to revise is given in the paper pattern of the specific NAT Test.

NAT Test Preparation Book

Students can prepare themselves for the NAT test by self-study or by getting coaching from someone. If you are searching for the book to prepare the NAT test then it will be the good step for the preparation. The book recommended by NTS (National test Service) for the preparation of NAT Test is published by Dogar’s Brothers and is named as “NATIONAL APTITUDE TEST (NAT) by NATIONAL TESTING SERVICE PAKISTAN”.
