SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE CANDIDATES
Candidates are directed to note the following instructions: –
1.
Roll Number should be written only on the right hand top corner of the title page of the Answer Book and not at any other place.
2.
Answer Book number should not be written inside the Answer Book.
3.
Marks of identification should not be made anywhere in the Answer Book or on the title page.
4.
Any material relevant to the Syllabus should not be taken while entering in the Examination Hall.
5.
No appeal be made to the Examiner in the Answer Book.
6.
Obscene language should not be used in the Answer Book.
7.
No one shall be allowed to leave the Examination Hall before first one hour is over. If any one leaves after one hour or before half the time is over, he/she shall not be allowed to take away the Question Paper.
8.
Un-authorized change of centre is strictly prohibited. If any one change his/her centre of examination of his/her own, un-fair means case will be registered against him/her. Similarly no change of subject is allowed unless permitted by the University.
9.
No one should appear in the examination without getting his/her Roll Number Slip.
10.
The candidates are allowed to use scientific calculator only which should be without Mini-computer.
11.
The candidates are not allowed to bring mobile telephone set in the Examination Hall.
12.
Unfair means cases shall be registered against those who will violate the above or such other instructions as are issued.

At least 60% marks or equivalent in both Matriculation/O-level and Intermediate/A-level examinations with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as major subjects. Those waiting for their results may also apply. However, the intermediate/A-level result with at least 60% marks or equivalent is required at the time of joining the BS program.

Selection of candidates is made on the basis of Matric /O-level, F.Sc./A-level grades and written test as per following:

Entry Test and Admission process for Undergraduate Entry 2011 will start from June 2011.

Prospective applicants are advised to prepare the following documents.

2. Computerized National Identity Card or Computerized B form from NADRA.

3. Certificate, Diploma or Degree of all the examinations on the basis of which admission is sought (i.e. H.S.S.C.,

Every year GIKI offers the addmissions of the Undergraduate Programs in the following Disciplines:

The courses are identified by the course numbers, which consist of two or three letters and three digits. The first two or three letters represent the major field; the first digit indicates the year in which the course is offered; the next digit the broad area of the course; and the last, the sequence number of the course offered in the same area in the same year.

Eligibility for Undersraduate Program

The applicants must have one of the following qualifications with at least 60% overall marks or equivalent grade. Applicants must also secure at least 60% marks or equivalent grade in Mathematics and Physics.

  1. HSSC (Pre-Engineering) with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry
  2. Three A-levels (Advanced Level General Certificate of Education) in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry (D or above grade Mathematics and Physics) and seven O-levels.
  3. American or Canadian High School Diploma with Mathematics (with calculus) Physics and Chemistry.
  4. International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma with Mathematics (with calculus), Physics and Chemistry.
  5. B.Sc. with Physics and Mathematics
  6. Three year polytechnic diploma, in the same discipline as faculty applied for, from a Pakistani Board of Technical Education.
  7. HSSC (Pre-Medical) having completed Additional Mathematics with at least 60% marks in the subject.

Note: Applicant with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry background can apply for all programs however those having studied Computer Science / Computer Studies in lieu of Chemistry at their HSSC or A-Level, can only apply for Computer System Engineering or Computer Software Engineering.

All Candidates (including additional Mathematics Result awaited for Sr. No. 7 above) may apply for provisional admission if they have completed one of the above courses and are awaiting results. The confirmation of admission is however subject to submission of result by the date specified in the admission offer letter.

Confirmation of all admissions will be subject to:

  • Submission of medical certificate of fitness from the Medical Center of GIK Institute, and
  • An undertaking by the student and his father/guardian to abide by the rules and regulations framed by the Institute from time to time.

Overseas Applicants:

The eligibility requirements for the Overseas are the same as for the applicants from within Pakistan. They may however, take Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT-II) in Physics and Mathematics (Math IIC) in place of Institute’s Admission test. Applicants have to choose only one basis for their admission i.e. admission test or SAT-II, an option once exercised cannot be changed. The candidates filing two separate applications on two different bases for admission are liable to be disqualified

The Facility of Online Form submission will be availabe after the release of Admission Notice 2011 during 1st Week of May 2011. All Applicants are advised to use downloaded/bank purchased Admission Form instead. Please ensure that Admission Form complete in all respect including all requisite attachments must reach the Admission Office by June 20, 2011.

Admission Test

Admission to the Bachelor Programs of the Institute is decided on the basis of candidates’ score in the admission test, which comprises multiple choice questions based on Pakistani intermediate level Physics, Mathematics and English. A sample of such questions is provided along with the application form.

The test is held simultaneously at Islamabad, Peshawar, Lahore, Quetta, Karachi, Multan and GIK Institute, Topi. The venue and general instructions for the test are intimated along with the dispatch of Admit Cards. Applicants can choose the test center according to their convenience. The results of the admission test are communicated to the selected candidates by post. Those applicants who do not receive the admit card one week prior to the test are advised to contact the Admission Office.

For the candidates applying on the basis of SAT-II, the merit will be determined by their Percentile score.

A former student of the Institute whose enrolment was cancelled due to unsatisfactory academic performance is also allowed to appear in the admission test. If selected, he/she will be enrolled in the first semester as a freshman and may not be given credit for the courses passed earlier. Any student who is currently on the roll of the Institute and wants to change the faculty is allowed to appear in the admission test. If selected he/she will not be given credits for the courses passed earlier.

 

Fee and Expenses

The Institute is a non-profit organization and provides subsidized education. The annual tuition fee (non-refundable), subject to revision from time to time, is as under for the 4 years for local residents and sons/daughters of expatriate Pakistanis.

The annual tuition fee (non-refundable) will be charge as per following rates from the foreigner students: –

  • Academic year 2010-2011                   US $ 13,600/-
  • Academic year 2011-2012                   US $ 14,600/-
  • Academic year 2012-2013                   US $ 14,600/-
  • Academic year 2013-2014                   US $ 15,600/-

The tuition fee is payable before the commencement of the Fall semester each year. A non-refundable admission fee of Rs. 25,000/- for Pakistani or US $ 650 for foreign applicants is also required to be deposited along with the annual tuition fee. Rs. 20,000 will be charged as security, refundable at the time of leaving the Institute, subject to the clearance from relevant departments. The messing charges, to be paid every month, are based on the actual expenditure, which is approximately Rs. 4000 to 4500.

The fee charged per course offered during the summer semester is notified with announcement of the summer semester. The final year students are charged convocation fee of Rs. 10,000/-.

Applicants are also encouraged to apply for scholarships offered by NESCOM. Students are requested to contact the donor agencies directly for further details. Form for the Punjab Goverment scholarship and KPK Scholarship are available for download in the Admission Downloads Section.

Continuation of scholarships is dependent on satisfactory academic performance of the concerned student and the policies of the donor agencies.

An outreach scholarship program, targeted at students from backward areas, is also available.

Financial Aid/Loan

To provide opportunity for educational advancement to academically bright but financially needy students, the Institute provides financial assistance in form of interest-free loans subject to nominal administrative charges. It is available to a limited number of students on need-cum-merit basis as determined by the Institute. The assistance may be for a period of one to four years of studies. Applicants seeking such assistance may apply on the prescribed form, which can be obtained with prospectus against an additional payment of Rs. 500/. These forms are required to be submitted along with Admission Form. The Form can also be downloaded from the Admission Downloads Section.

Those who apply for financial assistance will be informed at the time of admission whether or not their request has been acceded to. An applicant who has secured admission on basis of merit but whose request for financial assistance is not approved would be admitted on payment of full tuition fee.
