Title: When I was a Small Child

I am the eldest child in my family and was born after seven years of my parent’s marriage. You can very well imagine what a rare gem I am for them. I was fondled lavishly and a single tear from my eye would bring ten from my mother’s eye. When I started walking with the help of baby-walker, my parents held a grand feast. Noises of every type fascinated me. When the Balloon seller passed our lane, I used to run after him. My mother would buy the balloon filled with grains. It made sweet noise when it was jerked about. She also bought beautiful toys which had a whistle fitted underneath. When I pressed the doll, she, would squeak. When I was three years old, my birthday was celebrated with great pomp and show. My parents might have celebrated my first and second birthdays as well, but they have not left any trace in my memory. My relatives had brought beautiful toys which had to be wound up.

When the toy car was left on the floor, it would run for some distance. When the joker was wound up, it would blow a trumpet. It was a strange world when my parents were ready to bring moon from the sky. Once a juggler with two monkeys came to our street. He showed monkey tricks which engaged my attention. The he-monkey fell in love with she-monkey. She refused to marry the male monkey. He-monkey went to his father-in-law’s house wearing a colorful dress. I cannot forget the scene at his in-law’s house. I also liked the tricks shown by the juggler.

I was taken to the school when I was five years old. My parents had carried sweets to be distributed among the students. I was wearing a new dress and my mother had groomed me with great care. Both my parents left me there and walked back home. I shouted and cried but there was no help. My tears could not bring them back. The teacher talked gently and asked other students to make friends with me.

I grew up very fast. My friends grew in number and we started playing pranks with our neighbors. We used to enter any house and press the button of the call-bell. When the owner came out, we used to run away as fast as our legs could carry us. These memories are things of the past and a huge bag of books and heavy home-work is left-behind.

Title: My Last Day At College

In every college there is a tradition that the junior students e a farewell party to the senior outgoing students. In this way in a government College every year the students of XI Class give a farewell party to the XII Class students who are departing for their Board examination. Although parting from one’s college is always sad yet in this manner the last day in the college is made a memorable occasion for the students who are leaving. This day is definitely a sad day for those who are leaving. But at the sametime it is full of hopes, because they are now going to achieve their mission for which they had joined the college years ago.

On this day both the students and the teachers give emotional and touching speeches at the farewell party. The voice of the speakers-is choked. The students ask for forgiveness if they had been rude to their teachers during their stay in the college. The teachers bless them and wish them a good and bright career in the future. It is a day when a relationship which had been established over a period of nearly 2 years is snapped suddenly. The students take away the sweet memories of their college.

Last year I had to appear at the Intermediate Examination in March. Our -Principal gave us preparatory holidays for nearly two weeks in February. He also announced that the farewell function for the outgoing students would be organised on 24th February. So it was my last day at the college where I had studied for nearly 2 years. The function was to be organised by the students of XI Class under the supervision of our Vice-Principal. We reached the college at 10.00 a.m. The function was to start at 10.30 a.m. We had been asked to reach the college half an hour before the actual time.

The students of the Class XI had beautifully decorated the college with buntings and balloons. In the college a small stage had also been erected. On the stage were our honourable Principal, Vice-Principal and other members of the staff. All the students sat on the carpets which were spread on our ground. First of all we assembled in the lawn Of our college for a group photograph. After the photograph was taken we assembled in the Hall.

The Principal of our college presided over the function. The moment our Principal arrived, a student of our class garlanded him After this a few items of cultural program like songs, jokes etc. were arranged. There were certain students both in Class XI and Class XII who gave us good and touching, sprigs. Some students also recited poems and couplets befitting the occasion. The cultural program which was organised for the entertainment of the student and guests was a great success.

After the cultural program was over the monitor of class XI rose and gave a touching farewell speech with the permission of the chair person. After this the monitor of our class also made a brief speech on behalf of the outgoing, students, which was also very moving. After this our respectable teachers by whom we were taught blessed us one by one. They also gave brief speeches.

In the end, our Principal gave us his blessings in an inspiring and memorable speech. He exhorted us to work hard in life and dedicate ourselves to the building of our nation. He advised us to lead a disciplined and honest life. He also wished us success in our future career. His speech was very impressive. All the students clapped when he finished his speech. After the end of the Principal’s speech we were served with tea, biscuits, cakes and fruits. It was a fine party which w as liked by every one. The function was adjudged to be the best organised during the last so many years. This was indeed a memorable day in my life. All the outgoing students took leave of their teachers and friends individually. The teachers blessed us by extending their good wishes for our forthcoming examination, this was our last day at the College.

Title: My Hobby

The word “Hobby” is derived from a “Hobby Horse” which flick fitted with a wooden horse and on which small children for their amusement. So, hobby is a useful work which can be take up during leisure. Hobby means a useful work in which one interest and drives pleasure by doing it in spare time without monetary benefit. This occupation is quite apart from the regular work. There are many hobbies like gardening, stamp-collecting coin-collecting, photography, reading, etc. which one adopts according to one’s taste and purse.

It is a recreation from the exhaustion and fever of life. After a day’s hard labor, not all persons can go to see the movie and visit clubs for entertainment. Hobby provides a cheap source of entertainment and amusement. Gardening is my favorite hobby through which I can sec Nature and enjoy it. Nature is a true and dependent guide of man. Wordsworth contends that Nature never betrays anyone who loves her.

Ours is a big house. There is open space for vegetation, fruits and flowers. I have grown flower plants of rose, lily and sun-flower. The sweet fragrance of the flowers serves, as a tonic for my body and thus relieves me of becoming a prey to some disease. I have planted a few fruits also. There is adequate growth of vegetables in our compound. So, we seldom purchase any vegetable from the market.

Gardening provides me a good exercise for the day. It keeps me healthy. Happy and fresh for the day’s labor. Gardening is my sincere friend and inspires me whenever I am in a depressed mood. Whenever I cast a glance over my small garden and see the beautiful flowers, my heart blossoms.

Life is strife. If we rest, we rust, if we work. We shine if we shine, the world gives us credit. Moreover, an empty .mind is a devil’s workshop. It is better that one should pass a very much bus life. Struggle in the life it, self gives pleasure to a man.

Hobby, thus, is an interesting, pursuit through which one derives pleasure, recreation and amusement in the leisure. In hobby one sucks pleasure, feels exalted and mentally elated. Hobby removes the monotony and melancholy of mind. Rather, hobbies have a great educative value. Moreover, hobby gives a stimulus to better living.

Title: The Street Beggar

Beggars are very common in hole world. They are found in almost ever village, town and city. The main centers of their activities are the places of pilgrimage and worship. They squat on the banks of the rivers, in front of mosques and other places of hectic activity. They roam from street to street, from one location to-another and beg for alms, food and money. They accept whatever is given to them. Sometime they pursue the people so doggedly that people are fed up with them.

Some give alms to beggars in order to ward off the nuisance and not out of charity. Some beggars are so hale and heart so young and healthy that they do not deserve charity at all. The deserving cases are few : those who are crippled or lame, deaf or rift blind or handicapped, they are incapacitated and cannot earn their living. Some are in such a pathetic Plight that they evoke pity ad compassion. Such crippled beggars are well-versed in the art of singing religious songs. Some have really very melodious voice their sweet voice attracts the passers-by. Such beggars are found in trains and buses and they enthrall-the travelers by their religious and devotional songs and poems.

Sometimes one comes across a deaf or dumb beggar, lifting a blind or lame beggar on his back and begging for alms. It is also usual to see a leper placed in a low cart and carried from place to place. These beggars know human psychology and work according to that.

But most of the beggars live en the generosity of women: These beggars never miss religious gatherings and other festivals. Some wear only a loin cloth. Others besmear themselves with ashes, have long hair and pair of tongs. Some meditate under a tree. But man. are cheats and hypocrites. These beggars deceive the innocent women and at times rob them.

The number of beggars in every country is rising. These beggars live on the earnings of -others. It is really a curse that. Even able-bodied citizens of every countries resort to begging. They indulge in various vices like drinking smoking and gambling. Their bodies are diseased. They carry with them infection and roam from place to place and. thus, are responsible to a large extent for spreading epidemics.

Begging should be banned by law. A legislator must be enacted to put an end to this profession. However deserving cases should be helped and others should be given gainful employment. Street begging is really a great nuisance. Now -a-days people are not moved by any religious consideration, so beggars are not treated as they hope to be treated.

Title: The Snake Charmer

Snake-charmers are a class by themselves. They go about from place to place, displaying ir snakes which they keep as a precious treasure. No one knows from where they come and where they go. Probably they have no fixed habitation.

They have a basket which they sling on their shoulders, and in-which they keep their pet snakes. The vina is their constant companion, on which they play sweet tunes, which madden the serpents.

Promise them a pie, and they begin to play on the vina. Their Ida in modulating and controlling breath is wonderful, and the drawling music which they produce has a strange fascinating Influence.

When the charmer thinks his music has produced its effect on the snake, he will empty the pot or the casket, in which he keeps on the ground, and you will see a curled up thing. It lies on the ground lifeless, and he begins to rouse it by touching it with a stick, or proding it with the thin end of his vina. The lifeless thing now uncurls itself and begins to hiss and dash the charmer.

Sometimes it rushes at the spectators to their great fright. The dance of the cobra when it stands erect and spreads its hood is very amusing. Sometimes the charmer would even make the snake bite him, but he usually carries snakes whose poisonous fangs have been broken. He pretends to possess charms with which he can make these dangerous things harmless.

It is very difficult to understand this mysterious being. You can’t believe all what he says, and yet you cannot deny that he is a very clever man. His eyes are always red, and he has a very wild and frightful appearance. He certainly takes some strong intoxicating poison; otherwise you cannot explain the weird look of his eyes.

Title: The Happiest Day of my Life

There is hardly any living being who has not gone through ups and downs of life. Actually, life is full of bad as well as good incidents. Some of them may be forgotten with the passage of time, whereas others leave an everlasting imprint ‘on the mind. One feels delighted when one is favoured with fortune but plunges into despair during misfortunes. In fact, the wise man is the person who is neither overjoyed in property nor takes adversity to heart.

Last year, I passed the Higher Secondary Examination. Although I had fared well in the examination yet I was not so hopeful of getting first class. I was very much anxious because the question of my career was involved in it. The day earlier, when the result was expected to appear in the newspapers. I spent a restless night. I along with my friends got up early in the morning and wanted to catch the newspaper hawker on the way. Soon he appeared shouting about the declaration of the Higher Secondary results. His shouts were piercing my heart. I hurriedly took the paper and started spotting out my roll number. All sorts of expression were appearing on my face. It was a matter of immense surprise and pleasure to find that I stood second in my school securing 1st class. God fulfilled my desires I felt grateful to Him. My other friends also passed securing good marks. In order to celebrate our happiness, we chalked out a programme to go to some picnic-spot. We decided to go to Canal.

We reached Canal, at 11.00a.m. There was a heavy cavalcade (rush) of people. The banks of the canal were occupied by the visitors. We picked a place under a banyan tree and sat on there. We also took with us all the paraphernalia of lunch. We had our lunch to our heart’s content. Then we listened to music. As we were lost in the sweet music of our transistor, we heard loud cries. I immediately rushed toward the canal and saw to my shock and surprise that a boy was drowning. He was crying for help.

I immediately jumped into the water and swam to wards the drowning boy. I caught hold of the boy after a great struggle and dragged him towards the bank. He was in a semi–conscious state. When I saw him closely I was surprised to know that he was at one time my class fellow. He was then given medical aid and after some time he regained consciousness. I was delighted to see him recovering. My joy knew no bounds because I had saved the life of a boy who happens to be my friend. This day was a day of great joy and happiness. Not only did I secure second position but also did a brave and noble act by saving the boy from going into the jaws of death. This day, never-the-less will go down in my life as one of the happiest day.

Technical Education

According to human needs, education can be divided into three parts: Social or political education: Spiritual Education; Vocational or Technical- Education. Education that teaches us how to live in a society is called social or political education. Education that develops our personality and character may be termed as Spiritual Education. Then, education that teaches us how to earn our living is named as Vocational Education. Technical education is a branch of Vocational Education. By Technical Education we mean education dealing with some practical or mechanical art. Technical education includes training in trade Commerce, carpentry, weaving, agriculture, medicine and engineering. Its aim is to provide instruction and training in skills that have a practical utility. It helps us to meet the needs of the Industrial Age.

Technical Education is very important in the modern age.America, Britain, France, Russia and China are rich, prosperous and resourceful because of their progress in technical education. It produces engineers, Builders, doctors, and mechanics who are very useful in an industrial society. It is the only answer to the problems of our expanding economy. It produces doers and workers. These workers make real and important contribution to the welfare of society. We are able to increase the material resources• of our country through Technical education. It promote the material prosperity and economic advancement. It has a great educational value also as it imparts dexterity quickness, attention to detail, habit of neatness and orders People begin to have faith ig the dignity of labour. We can save a lot of foreign exchange, if we have our own technical experts. In short, Technical Education makes a country Rich, prosperous, and Resourceful. But it has certain limitations also. Too much of technical education changes a man into machine, A man’s specialized knowledge makes him unfit for other jobs. So we should have an element of liberal education in Technical Education.

Nowadays Education is Lacking on the technical side.0ur schools and colleges produce men who are fit only to be clerks. Our young men run after office job. They dislike work in factories and hate to learn practical skills this is why unemployment is So widespread in the country. Poverty is due to the neglect of technical education. Our country is rich in raw material resources. We cannot reap the advantages only because we are not equipped with any technical knowledge. In this respect we must take two steps. First, more and more technical institutions should be established. Secondly, the idea of “Dignity of Labour” should be popularized. We must always keep in mind that progress is possible only through Technical Education.
